Student Support Worker - Learning Disabilities

We are looking for a responsible, hard working individual to join us on a part time basis, to support our Students in their activities at Scrubditch Care Farm, a registered charity in North Cerney, Cirencester.

At Scrubditch Care Farm we provide farm based activities and training for vulnerable people, primarily adults with learning disabilities and people living with dementia.

We keep sheep, goats, some pigs and a variety of hens and ducks. We grow a lot of fruit and vegetables, cook with our produce, do some basic woodwork and care for our horse too. Hours will be approximately 19 per week (over 3 days) and the successful applicant will need to have own transport due to the farm location. The rate of pay is £10.50 per hour.

Duties will include:

  • General care of Care Farm animals

  • Working with the students on elements of ‘animal care, horse care, horticulture, woodwork and cookery’

  • Horticultural jobs – watering, weeding, picking produce etc

  • Assisting the Care Farm management team to plan and implement learning activities for the students and help keep records of these

  • Working with the Care Farm Volunteers to support the students in their activities

  • Working in line with Health and Safety and Safeguarding regulations at all times

  • Organising and cleaning the indoor work areas

  • Getting involved with some fund raising and events

(This job description is not exhaustive, due to the nature of the role and the charity, it can be quite varied). Essential skills required are – enthusiasm and passion for working outdoors and the benefits it can bring, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a ‘can do’ attitude and willingness to get stuck in. The role is physically demanding with a fair amount of walking and some lifting. Experience of working with vulnerable adults, in particular those with learning disabilities would be advantageous, as would any agricultural, horticultural, woodworking or cookery knowledge but full training will be given. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and references will be required. Job Type: Part-time Part-time hours: 19 per week Salary: £10.50 per hour Schedule:
